Thomas blazes in season opener

On January 23 Mikel Thomas a 2x Olympian and national record holder in the 110mh hurdles showed his sprinting talents winning the Chreey and Silver indoor invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thomas who is the reigning NACAC Champion and Pan-Am double medalist in the 110mh(silver) and 4x1(bronze) showed the growth in his season preparations.

"It's been a great build up thus far and I'm excited for greater things to come. This year I've been working on really being consistent in all that I am and do in the sport and believe it will help bring fruitful results." Thomas is looking to make what would be a historic third Olympic Games with a strong appearance in each championship contested. He also has his sights on the Indoor World championships in Portland, Oregon this March. "I've learned how to show up in championships and no longer just wanted to make teams for a field trip." said Thomas.

Will we see more of Thomas sprinting as he did making the 4x1 national squad? "I don't know why people doubt hurdlers ability to sprint. Greats like Britians Colin Jackson and the U.S Allen Johnson and Terrance Trammel paved the way and showed it can be done. I would love to contribute to the work those men started in hopes to continue to elevate the sport and event"

In his next race Thomas looks to open up in the hurdle event in hope to continue his strong start towards the Indoor championships and Olympics.

We wish him all the best in his quest.
